Q: My tester has stopped working - there is no reading on the gauge?

A: Assuming the tester features a detachable gauge arrangement - the tester may simply be out of oil. Follow the oil fill procedure to refill the tester using the dedicated oil bottle. More detailed instructions can be found here.

Q: What maintenance procedures are required between annual calibration?

A: Check the oil level and apply oil or grease to the threaded rod which the crank (traditional black turning handle or 22mm operating nut or new style anodised turning handle) threads onto.

Q: Sometimes my handle or gauge on my tester becomes obstructed by the unit legs or other objects. Can I change its position?

A: Yes. On the Model 2000 and 2050 you can rotate the top part of the tester. This is achieved by loosening the three grub screws (a) on the body using the allen key provided. Rotate the top until the handle and gauge are clear of obstacles and re-tighten the screws.

Q: The black needle on my gauge (more often than not a 5kN scope gauge) will not return to the zero stop position?

A: Conclusion; the gauge is damaged beyond repair having been overwound past its maximum capacity.

Q: I need to test Petzl eyes. Do Hydrajaws have an adaptor for this?

A: Yes we do (Petzl hanging Plate Adaptor @ £63.00). However, we made this adaptor initially following a request from a specific customer, we then made it available to all. But, even though this is the only way to test the physical Petzl bracket, in practice the thread will bend even at a low load as the pull is off set.
Therefore as the integratory (up to 25kN) of the physical Petzl bracket is not really in question, the recommendation is to remove it and to pull directly on the (usually M10) thread.

Q: One or more legs on my 150 load spreading bridge is bent?

A: This usually occurs either as a result of having been dropped or having been subject to a load being applied when either the leg/foot was on an uneven surface and/or the bridge was uneven.

To overcome this, two level bubbles are provided on the 150 bridge. The legs will accept a slight amount to bend while under load thereafter returning to their natural position, however, once permanently damaged, replacements can be obtained.

Note: For loads in excess of 25kN we insist that hex extension legs be installed to protect the standard threaded bridge legs and these hex extension legs should be threaded fully over the existing standard leg up to the underneath of the 150 bridge.

Q: During the calibration process, is the entire tester calibrated or just the gauge?

A: The purpose of the annual calibration process is to confirm the continued accuracy of the gauge(s).

For those testers that feature a fixed gauge this negates that the entire tester is returned for calibration. If the tester features a detachable gauge arrangement then only the detachable gauge(s) need be returned. If the entire tester is returned along with the gauge(s) then the tester will be used during the calibration process.

Q: Can Petzl anchors be accommodated?

A: Yes. It is usual practice for the plate adaptor to be removed and the thread be pull tester. Pulling on the Petzl Hanging Plate adaptor will deform it.

Q: What is the maximum gauge scope available for use with the Model 2000 tester?

A: Hydrajaws can supply an absolute maximum 0-30kN Analogue, Digital and Digital Bluetooth gauge.

Note: Hydrajaws insists that for loads in excess of 25kN, hex extension legs MUST be installed to reinforce the standard bridge leg.

Q: Can Insulation fixings be accommodated?

A: Yes. Utilising the dedicated insulation adaptor. This adaptor features an M12 thread which locates securely into the standard M12 locking adaptor.

Q: Is there an alternative handle for use in confined spaces?

A: Yes. For use in a confined space were the standard turning handle will not turn, Hydrajaws offers a 22mm Operating Nut solution for use with a ratchet spanner.

Moreover, in 2015 Hydrajaws introduced a new style anodised turning handle which features an integrated 22mm Operating Nut solution for use with a ratchet spanner. The two turning handles are removable. This is a standard feature on the Model 2000 and Model 2050 testers and can be retro fitted to an existing Model 2000 tester.

Q: My Model Hilti HAT28/Hydrajaws® 2000 'Deluxe/Deluxe Master kit' features threaded button adaptors up to M12. Can I attach to larger thread sizes?

A: Yes. Hydrajaws can supply and M16 and M20 Threaded Stud Adaptor to accommodate these common thread sizes. Even larger thread sizes can be accommodated however these test loads are often in excess of what the Model 2000 tester can safely achieve therefore our Model 2008 tester may be more suitable.
