xWe developed 3M™ Performance Yellow Masking Tape 301+ as an industrial strength masking tape that sticks instantly to most surfaces including metal, rubber, glass, plastic and removes easily to create sharp paint lines. This distinctive tape remains in place when formed around corners, through contours, and over irregular surfaces without lifting or curling.
Our strong crepe paper backing resists bleed through of most industrial paint systems and is also useful for bundling and holding. Its unique color also makes it ideal for marking and identifying. Using our proprietary solvent-free adhesive, this tape sticks to most surfaces including metal, rubber, glass and plastic and removes easily and cleanly in one piece. 3M™ Performance Masking Tape Yellow 301+ (PDF, 1.3 Mb) has a temperature use range up to 225° F (107° C) for 30 minutes so that sharp paint lines can be created in room temperature or paint-bake operations.What is Masking Tape?Masking tape was developed specifically to help protect surrounding surfaces from overspray, provide clean paint lines, and remove easily and cleanly when finished. Our masking tapes adhere well, resist solvents or water from the paint, and are strong enough to hang plastic sheeting, yet remove cleanly without damaging the subsurface. The backing, typically crepe paper, can conform to curved and irregular surfaces. The tape hand tears for tool-free application.A masking tape should specify what surfaces it will stick to and the interval over which it will remove cleanly. A very thin or poorly manufactured tape may demonstrate splintering or shredding, either coming off the roll or when being removed after use. The classic crepe paper masking tape is a light tan color, but our masking tapes come in a variety of colors and formulations to meet general and specific applications.
